Ricollin Moodley Honors Cornal Hendricks with Unique Lipstick Artwork

Following the tragic passing of former Springbok winger Cornal Hendricks, tributes have been pouring in from the sporting world. One such tribute comes from 24-year-old artist Ricollin Moodley, who decided to honor Hendricks in a unique and creative way – through a breathtaking artwork created entirely with lipstick.

Speaking about his inspiration for the tribute, Moodley explained, “I wanted to immortalize his memory with something that I’m known for, which is lipstick paintings of the Springboks. So that’s my way of paying my tribute to a fallen legend like him.”

Hendricks, aged 37, passed away from a suspected heart attack, leaving behind a legacy in the world of rugby. Diagnosed with a heart condition in 2015, Hendricks faced challenges in his career but eventually made a remarkable comeback with the Vodacom Bulls in 2019 after receiving medical clearance.

Dr. Wouter Basson, Hendricks’ cardiologist, clarified that his death was unrelated to his rugby career, shedding light on the athlete’s health struggles and perseverance.

For Moodley, the connection with Hendricks’ story runs deep as he himself faces health limitations that prevent him from pursuing sports. Instead, he has found solace and passion in art, using his unique talent to pay tribute to Hendricks and his resilience.

Creating the lipstick artwork in just two days, Moodley poured his emotions into the piece, highlighting the dedication and effort he puts into his craft. While he is unable to donate the artwork to Hendricks’ family due to financial constraints, Moodley’s art serves as a means of supporting his own family and fighting poverty.

As a self-taught artist, Moodley has garnered attention for his innovative approach to portraits, particularly his depictions of the Springbok World Cup-winning team. Despite his growing success, he remains focused on his ultimate goal of providing a stable home for his family and using his art to uplift them from poverty.

Through his inspiring journey, Moodley hopes to encourage others to pursue their passions and not be deterred by obstacles, showcasing the power of creativity and determination in overcoming challenges.
