In a recent development, former Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has come out to challenge claims made by the current Chief Executive of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey. Mr. Nkansah contests the assertion that the recent revenue growth at the DVLA is solely a result of Mr. Kotey’s leadership.
Mr. Nkansah took to Facebook on Friday, August 22, to share that his assertions are based on documents he has reviewed from the former DVLA management. He argues that the credit for the improvements should be attributed to former Deputy Chief Executive of the DVLA, Prince Opoku Edusei.
He accuses Mr. Kotey of being misleading in a recent media interview where he implied that he had not inherited any initiatives from his predecessor. Mr. Nkansah points out that the DP plate stickers project, highlighted by Mr. Kotey as a key driver of revenue growth, was actually designed and completed under the previous administration, with the rollout scheduled for early 2025.
Providing a timeline of events, Mr. Nkansah explains that in January 2024, the Ministry of Transport granted approval for the conversion of DP plates into digitalized stickers. Subsequently, a vendor was engaged, designs were finalized, and a committee was established in May 2024 to oversee the project’s implementation.
By June 2024, an agreement had been signed with the manufacturers of the plates, and by November, training sessions had been conducted for the police and other stakeholders in preparation for the launch. Mr. Nkansah emphasizes that these processes were completed before the current DVLA Chief Executive took office, suggesting that he merely executed what had already been set in motion.
He stresses that the groundwork laid by Mr. Edusei is what has ultimately led to the revenue growth at the DVLA and emphasizes the importance of giving credit where it is due.
