Mamelodi Sundowns Secure Another 1-0 Victory Against Stellenbosch FC
Mamelodi Sundowns claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC in a Betway Premiership clash at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday night. The match saw Iqraam Rayners steal the spotlight once again, scoring the decisive goal against his former team.
Rayners, who recently found the back of the net in the Caf Champions League, now boasts five league goals for Sundowns since joining the club at the start of the season. With a total of 12 goals across all competitions, Rayners has been a key asset for the Tshwane giants.
The first half saw Sundowns dominating proceedings, with Lucas Ribeiro missing crucial chances to extend the lead. However, it was Rayners who broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, capitalizing on a setup from Kobamelo Kodisang to beat Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens.
Despite losing Marcelo Allende to injury early on, Sundowns continued to control the game in the second half. Aubrey Modiba came close to doubling the lead, but his shot narrowly missed the target. Stellenbosch threatened with a header from Andre de Jong, but Dennis Onyango made a crucial save to preserve Sundowns’ lead.
Onyango once again showcased his goalkeeping prowess with a vital stop from Devin Titus in the closing stages of the match, ensuring Sundowns secured all three points. Despite Stellenbosch’s late surge, Steve Barker’s side was unable to find the equalizer against the resilient champions.
