MI Cape Town secured a dominant 33-run victory against their neighbors, the Paarl Royals, in a thrilling SA20 game at Newlands. The Cape Town team’s bowlers, led by Kagiso Rabada, George Linde, and captain Rashid Khan, put in an outstanding performance to restrict the Royals to 139/9 in their chase of 173.
Rabada was exceptional with the ball, finishing with figures of 2/22 in his four overs. He was well supported by Linde, who picked up 3/15, and Khan, who ended with 2/28. The Royals got off to a strong start with Joe Root and Lhaun-dre Pretorius combining well at the top, but once Rabada dismissed Root, the wickets started to fall quickly.
Aside from Root and Pretorius, Sam Hain, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Kwena Maphaka provided some resistance for the Royals. However, they fell short of the target set by MI Cape Town, who were clinical with the ball and in the field.
On the batting front, Reeza Hendricks starred for the home team with a classy 59 off 37 balls. He formed a crucial partnership with Rassie van der Dussen, who contributed 43 runs. Delano Potgieter once again impressed with the bat, adding a quickfire 29 at the end of the innings.
Dayyaan Galiem was the standout bowler for the Royals, finishing with figures of 3/24 in his four overs. Despite his efforts, MI Cape Town’s total of 172/7 proved to be too much for the Royals to chase down.
Overall, it was a complete team performance from MI Cape Town, with both their bowling and batting units firing on all cylinders. The victory cements their position at the top of the SA20 standings and sends a strong message to their rivals in the competition.
