PSG Manager Luis Enrique Reflects on Hard-Fought Victory Over Lens
After securing a crucial 1-0 home victory over Lens, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique reflected on the tough battle his team had to face to establish a six-point lead over second-placed Monaco in Ligue 1.
The only goal of the match came from Ousmane Dembele, propelling PSG to the top of the table with 26 points, leaving Monaco trailing by six points. In third place, Lille sits two points behind the leading team.
Describing the victory, Luis Enrique stated, “It’s a deserved victory that we had to work hard for.” Despite the win, he acknowledged that PSG could have been more clinical in front of goal and missed opportunities to score more than one goal.
Despite Lens’ efforts, they remain just outside the European places, sitting in seventh place with 14 points. The early lead for PSG came in the fourth minute when Dembele capitalized on excellent wing play from Bradley Barcola to score his fifth league goal of the season.
As the match progressed, Lens faced setbacks with Florian Sotoca having to be substituted due to a thigh injury. PSG continued to press for a second goal, with Fabian Ruiz and Marco Asensio coming close to adding to their lead.
On the hour mark, Lens were reduced to 10 men following a VAR review that saw Abdukodir Khusanov sent off for a high tackle. Despite the disadvantage, Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba made impressive saves to keep his team in contention.
With a goal and a man advantage, PSG managed to hold off Lens in the second half, securing the three points and extending their lead at the top of the table. The victory sets up PSG for a strong position in the ongoing Ligue 1 season.
Looking ahead, Nice will face Brest, while Saint-Etienne is set to host Strasbourg in their respective fixtures later on Saturday.
