President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled his campaign promise by announcing his first set of ministerial nominees to serve in his administration. These nominations are in line with his commitment to name all 60 ministerial appointments within his first 14 days in office.
A statement dated Thursday, 9 January, and signed by the acting spokesperson of the presidency, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed that the names have been submitted to the Speaker of Parliament in accordance with Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution. The nominees will undergo vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, chaired by the 1st Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, for final approval.
The three nominees announced by President Mahama are highly qualified individuals who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their respective portfolios.
Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minister-designate for Finance, is an economist, chartered accountant, and tax practitioner with extensive experience in public finance, macroeconomics, fiscal policy, tax policy, and business management. With a PhD in Finance from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, as well as Master of Science degrees in Taxation and Economics from the University of Oxford and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr Forson is well-equipped to handle the complexities of the finance ministry.
John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister-designate for Energy, brings a wealth of hands-on experience, competence, and expertise to the energy portfolio. With qualifications in energy economics and finance, including a Master of Arts in Economic Policy Management, an MBA in Marketing, and a Master of Science in Development Finance from the University of Ghana, Jinapor is expected to bring much-needed dynamism and capability to transform the energy sector.
Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Designate, is a senior lawyer with three decades of experience in practice. A former Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Ayine holds a PhD in law from Stanford University, a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan Law School, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana. With his extensive legal background and experience, Dr Ayine is well-equipped to uphold justice and the rule of law in Ghana.
These nominees are poised to make significant contributions to President Mahama’s administration and advance the development agenda of the country. Their qualifications, experience, and commitment to public service make them valuable additions to the government.
