Shakira Resumes World Tour After Hospital Stay
After a sudden hospitalization forced Colombian pop star Shakira to cancel a concert, the singer-songwriter has announced that her show in Peru will go ahead as scheduled. The 48-year-old artist had to visit the emergency room on Saturday night and was briefly admitted to the hospital, leading to the cancellation of her performance on Sunday.
Despite the health scare, Shakira took to Instagram to assure fans that the concert at the National Stadium in Lima will proceed as planned. The gates will open at 4:00 pm with the show set to begin at 8:15 pm. There was no mention of her health in the post.
The events company Masterlive has confirmed that Monday’s concert will go ahead as scheduled. They also mentioned that a new date will be announced soon for the cancelled show from Sunday.
Shakira’s world tour, “Las mujeres ya no lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), is her first in seven years. The tour began in Rio de Janeiro shortly after she won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. She dedicated the award to migrants in the United States facing deportation under President Donald Trump.
With a career spanning over 90 million records sold worldwide and four Grammy Awards, Shakira is one of the most iconic Latin artists of all time. She is set to perform nearly 50 dates in Latin America by the end of June, followed by shows in the United States and Canada.
