Aide Questions Validity of Survey Showing Bawumia Leading NPP Leadership Contest
A political aide has raised concerns about the accuracy of recent survey results indicating Mahamudu Bawumia is in the lead in the New Patriotic Party’s leadership race.
Pius Enam Hadzide, speaking on behalf of potential candidate Bryan Acheampong, has questioned the credibility of such polls, suggesting they could be part of a strategic manipulation by certain politicians.
The survey conducted by Global Info Analytics, which polled 2,656 party delegates across the country from August 12 to 20, showed Bawumia with 52 percent support, followed by Kennedy Agyapong at 17 percent, and Acheampong at 3 percent. Hadzide argues that these numbers do not accurately reflect the true level of support on the ground, asserting that Acheampong is gaining momentum rapidly.
Regarding the party’s chairmanship race, the same poll indicated that former General Secretary John Boadu is leading with 32 percent backing, closely trailed by Ashanti Regional Chairman Benard Antwi Boasiako at 23 percent. The remaining candidates received minimal support, with 34 percent of delegates yet to make a decision, suggesting there could be significant shifts in allegiance before the internal elections.
The critique from Hadzide underscores the escalating tensions within the party as aspirants position themselves for the 2028 general elections. With a large portion of delegates still undecided, the leadership contests remain fiercely competitive despite the early polling figures.
