The Proteas aim for a 2-0 series win over Pakistan despite securing their spot in the World Test Championship final

Even though the Proteas have already secured their place in the World Test Championship final, they are not taking their foot off the gas as they aim for a 2-0 series win over Pakistan in the second Test at Newlands in Cape Town.

In the previous Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion, the Proteas secured a thrilling two-wicket victory, which also guaranteed their spot in the WTC final at Lords in June. Captain Temba Bavuma emphasized the team’s motivation to continue their winning streak and achieve a fourth consecutive series triumph.

Series on the line

Bavuma highlighted the importance of the series win despite already qualifying for the final. The team is determined to maintain their winning momentum and improve on their performances from the previous Test.

Reflecting on a past Test at Newlands where the Proteas suffered a heavy defeat, Bavuma expressed confidence that the team has learned from their mistakes and is prepared to put up a better performance against Pakistan.

Interesting wicket

Bavuma hinted at an intriguing pitch at Newlands and expressed hope that the match would go the full five days, providing an exciting contest for the fans. With the first two days already sold out, the Proteas are eager to put on a show for the packed crowd.

Despite making three changes to the team, including handing a debut to Kwena Maphaka, the Proteas are focused on collective success and understanding the importance of each player’s role in the squad. Bavuma emphasized the need for unity and trust in the team’s selection decisions for the betterment of the team.

Tricky selection

Bavuma acknowledged the challenge of team selection but highlighted the importance of players understanding and accepting their roles for the greater good of the team. Despite tough decisions, the team remains united in their goal of winning for themselves, the team, and the country.

With the desire to do justice to the selections made, the Proteas are determined to continue their winning streak and secure a 2-0 series victory over Pakistan at Newlands.
