Pastor T.D. Jakes
Taking A Step Back From Church …
Months After Scary Medical Episode
Published
Pastor T.D. Jakes has made the decision to step back from his role in his megachurch, The Potter’s House, after a scary medical incident that occurred on stage months ago. The founder of the church, which he established in 1996, revealed that he will be passing on his responsibilities to his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Toure Roberts.
In a heartfelt statement to his congregation, Jakes expressed his desire to focus on addressing significant economic issues and serving as a bridge between community, culture, and corporate alliances. While he emphasized that he will continue to serve as a minister, he believes it is time for the next generation to lead The Potter’s House into the future.
Although Jakes did not directly address his health concerns in the announcement, it is notable that he is stepping down less than six months after experiencing a medical incident during a sermon that almost led to him collapsing on stage.
Following the incident in November, Jakes received an outpouring of well-wishes from his supporters. He later underwent emergency surgery to address the undisclosed health issue, referring to the experience as a “miracle” in his recovery.
With this transition, T.D. Jakes will have more time to prioritize his health while continuing his ministry work. Although not retiring completely, he trusts that the leadership of his daughter and son-in-law will guide The Potter’s House into a prosperous future.
