Harambee Starlets head coach Beldine Odemba has officially announced the 23-player squad that will take on Morocco in an upcoming international friendly scheduled for June 4, 2025. The Moroccan team, currently sitting at 60th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, will provide a tough test for the Kenyan side.
In preparation for the final round of the 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers against Gambia in October, Coach Odemba has made some strategic selections for the squad. One of the standout inclusions is Kibera Soccer Women goalkeeper Vivian Shiyonzo, who impressed with her performances and finished second in the clean sheets tally for the 2024/25 season. Returning to the national team setup are defender Leah Andiema, forward Tumaini Waliaula, and midfielder Diana Wacera. Additionally, Phoebe Aketch and Martha Amunyolet have earned their call-up based on their strong showings at the club level.
Captain Dorcas Shikobe, who missed the April camp in Ivory Coast due to injury, is making her comeback to the squad. Her experience and leadership will be crucial as the team gears up for the important WAFCON qualifier.
One notable absence from the squad is goalkeeper Lilian Awuor, who is currently in Romania. Due to ongoing work permit procedures, Awuor is unable to leave the country at this time, as it could complicate her document processing.
Coach Odemba has highlighted the significance of the friendly against Morocco as a key opportunity to assess the team’s progress and readiness for the upcoming WAFCON qualifier. The Starlets are aiming to make a return to the continental tournament, having last participated in 2016.
The provisional squad for the upcoming friendly match includes a mix of experienced players and promising talents:
Goalkeepers: Annedy Kundu, Vivian Shiyonzo
Defenders: Leah Andiema, Phoebe Aketch, Dorcas Shikobe, Tabitha Amoit, Janet Mumo, Ruth Ingosi, Enez Mango, Vivian Nasaka
Midfielders: Diana Wacera, Martha Amunyolet, Sheril Angach, Fasila Adhiambo, Lavender Ann Akinyi, Corazone Aquino
Forwards: Mwanahalima Adam, Violet Nanjala, Jentrix Shikangwa, Elizabeth Wambui, Faith Mboya, Emily Morang’a, Tumaini Waliaula
The upcoming friendly match against Morocco will provide a valuable opportunity for the Harambee Starlets to fine-tune their tactics and team cohesion ahead of the crucial WAFCON qualifier against Gambia. With a blend of experience and fresh talent in the squad, the Kenyan team will be looking to make a strong statement on the international stage.
