The Eastern Regional Deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nathaniel Tetteh, has raised concerns about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign strategy for the upcoming Akwatia by-election. Tetteh accused the NPP of lacking a concrete plan or positive message for the constituency, relying instead on constant references to the late Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s Akwatia Watch, Tetteh stated, “The NPP has nothing in store for the people of Akwatia. When you visit the constituency, all they have to offer are funeral messages. They have been playing funeral dirges and showcasing pictures of the late Hon. Ernest Kumi as their only campaign message.”
Furthermore, Tetteh alleged that the NPP was exploiting Kumi’s memory for political gain, portraying themselves as more sympathetic to his legacy than his own family. He emphasized that the people of Akwatia would not be swayed by such tactics.
The Akwatia by-election, slated for Tuesday, September 2, has garnered significant attention as a closely contested race. The NPP’s constituency treasurer, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, will compete against the NDC’s constituency secretary, Bernard Bediako, in a bid to secure the swing seat.
To ensure a peaceful electoral process, the Ghana Police Service has announced the deployment of officers before, during, and after the polls. These officers, who recently underwent a five-day intensive training program, have been tasked with maintaining law and order and upholding the integrity of the election.
As the by-election approaches, all eyes are on Akwatia to see how the political landscape will shift in this crucial contest. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
