Athletics Integrity Unit Imposes Three-Year Ban on Nigerian Jumper Goodness Iredia
Nigerian long and triple jumper Goodness Iredia has been handed a three-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after testing positive for Metenolone, a substance classified under S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids on WADA’s 2025 Prohibited List.
The 20-year-old athlete admitted to the violation after testing positive during an in-competition test on January 31, 2025, in Louisville, USA. As a result of his admission, Iredia’s suspension was reduced from four years to three. Additionally, his results from the date of the test have been disqualified.
The current Nigerian triple jump champion and bronze medallist at the 2024 African Athletics Championships will begin serving his ban from February 26, 2025.
Iredia’s suspension adds to the concerning trend of Nigerian athletes facing doping-related bans. Joining the likes of Samson Idiata, Blessing Okagbare, and Grace Nwokocha, the case of Iredia underscores the need for enhanced anti-doping compliance measures within Nigerian athletics.
