Nigerian Afro-dancehall sensation Patoranking aims to impact one million young lives by 2035

Renowned for his chart-topping hits, Nigerian Afro-dancehall superstar Patoranking, born Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, is on a mission to make a difference in the lives of one million young people by the year 2035. Despite his global musical success, Patoranking’s heart is set on empowering the youth of Africa.

Having risen from the slums of Ebute Metta, Lagos, Patoranking has overcome significant challenges to become one of Nigeria’s most versatile and successful musicians. His unique blend of dancehall, reggae, and afrobeat has captivated audiences worldwide, but his aspirations extend far beyond the realm of music.

In an interview with CNN, Patoranking shared his vision, saying, “I’ve always had a vision of what my family and community should be like.” He emphasized the importance of taking charge and creating opportunities not just for himself but for those around him, especially considering his humble beginnings in a disadvantaged neighborhood.

Growing up in poverty, Patoranking witnessed the harsh realities of life from a young age. With his father struggling as a petty trader, the prospect of pursuing a college education seemed out of reach. Turning to his musical talents, Patoranking found solace in expressing the struggles of his community through his music.

His breakthrough came in 2013 when he was mentored by Nigerian musician Timaya and collaborated on the hit song “Alubarika,” released under Timaya’s label. The following year, Patoranking achieved widespread acclaim with his single “Girlie O,” earning multiple awards and securing a spot on MTV Base’s Official Naija Top 10 chart.

Despite his rapid ascent to fame, Patoranking remained grounded and established the Patoranking Foundation in 2018. The foundation is dedicated to empowering one million young people through initiatives focused on community development, education, and sports.

Driven by his childhood dream of becoming a football player, Patoranking aims to create opportunities for underprivileged youth by building sports facilities in their communities. The first of these facilities was constructed in his hometown of Ebute Metta, providing a safe space for young people to engage in sports, education, and social activities.

With a goal of establishing 100 such facilities across Africa in the next five years, Patoranking envisions creating a network of safe havens for youth in disadvantaged areas and slums. In addition to sports programs, the foundation supports vocational training and educational initiatives to empower young people to pursue their dreams.

Reflecting on his philanthropic efforts, Patoranking shared, “I see philanthropy as a personal journey. Before becoming Patoranking, I prayed for the opportunity to change lives if I were blessed with financial success.” His commitment to giving back is fueled by his own struggles with education costs and his passion for technology.

As Patoranking continues to inspire African youth with his music and charitable endeavors, his legacy is not just in his chart-topping hits but in the positive impact he is making on the lives of young people across the continent.
