Former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili Criticizes Nigeria’s Political Elite

Renowned former Minister of Education and public analyst Oby Ezekwesili has not held back in her scathing critique of Nigeria’s political elite. She describes them as a “migratory breed” devoid of ideology and solely driven by the pursuit of power.

In an exclusive interview with Newscentral, Ezekwesili emphasized that the country is currently in a state of capture orchestrated by politicians who have mastered the art of manipulating governance structures to serve their own interests.

According to Ezekwesili, Nigeria’s political problems are not limited to a specific party but are deeply rooted in a political class that prioritizes power over national progress. She highlighted how prominent Nigerian politicians have shifted between political affiliations without any clear ideological platform.

Ezekwesili further criticized Nigeria’s politicians as “migratory fellows” who have moved between various political platforms based on convenience rather than ideology. This culture has resulted in governance cycles that prioritize power acquisition over meaningful progress for the nation.

She expressed her disappointment in the lack of accountability and the politicians’ disregard for governance beyond election cycles. Ezekwesili also pointed out the systematic erosion of institutions, particularly the judiciary, due to the unrelenting pursuit of power by politicians.

Referring to Nigeria’s dominant political parties as “twin Siamese twins of bad governance,” Ezekwesili reiterated her stance on the indistinguishable nature of these parties. She lamented the lack of differentiation and the politicians’ failure to prioritize the well-being of the nation over their own political ambitions.

Ultimately, Ezekwesili argues that this governance structure has led politicians to view the public with disdain, further exacerbating the challenges faced by the Nigerian populace.
