Neymar Scores First Goal for Santos Since Return to Brazil
Neymar netted his first goal for Santos since returning to Brazil by successfully converting a penalty during a 3-1 victory over Água Santa from São Paulo on Sunday.
After a challenging comeback, Neymar found the back of the net from the penalty spot in the 14th minute of the Sao Paulo state championship match. This goal not only helped Santos secure a win but also provided some comfort to the 33-year-old athlete.
Thaciano added to the scoreline with a goal in the 26th minute, and Guilherme, assisted by Neymar, sealed the victory with another goal in the 70th minute.
Despite struggling to complete a full 90 minutes in any match for Santos, Neymar showed signs of improvement on Sunday as he continues to recover from a knee injury that has plagued his recent performances.
Having made his official return to football in October after a year-long absence, Neymar’s journey back to form has been closely followed by fans and pundits alike.
Last month, Neymar announced the mutual termination of his contract with Saudi club Al-Hilal, where injuries limited his playing time to just seven matches and one goal despite a hefty transfer fee of $94 million in 2023.
Currently on a six-month agreement with Santos, Neymar has left the door open for a possible extension in the future. During his initial stint at the club from 2009 to 2013, he scored an impressive 138 goals in 225 official competitions.
Renowned for his record-breaking transfer from Barcelona to PSG in 2017 for a staggering fee of $262 million, Neymar continues to make headlines both on and off the pitch with his performances and career decisions.
