Survivor Recounts Terrifying Experience of New Orleans Attack
Jeremi Sensky found himself in the midst of chaos on New Orleans’ Bourbon Street, as a pickup truck plowed into a crowd, leaving 15 people dead and many more injured. Sensky, who was returning to his hotel at the time, was thrown to the ground and faced with the horrifying sound of gunfire.
Speaking from his hospital bed with two broken legs, Sensky recalled the surreal moment when the attack unfolded. He never saw the truck coming, only hearing a deafening noise that made him think something had fallen. The next thing he knew, he was on the ground with his wheelchair, which he relied on due to a prior paralysis, shattered around him.
Despite the chaos, Sensky couldn’t confirm if the truck had hit him directly. All he could remember was the impact and the subsequent gunfire that erupted as police engaged in a shootout with the suspect. Sensky found himself in the midst of the crossfire, hoping he was low enough to avoid getting hit.
Amidst the chaos, Sensky found himself crying out for help, surrounded by onlookers who seemed paralyzed by the unfolding tragedy. Unable to locate his phone to call for assistance, he continued to yell until someone finally came to his aid, reassuring him that he was alive despite his injuries.

Eventually, first responders arrived to transport Sensky to the hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries. Reflecting on the harrowing experience, Sensky expressed disbelief at having survived the attack and the ensuing chaos.
President Joe Biden, along with First Lady Jill Biden, is scheduled to visit New Orleans to meet with officials and offer support to the families and community affected by the tragic attack. The community continues to grapple with the aftermath of the senseless violence that unfolded on New Year’s Day.
