Denver International Airport Experiences Delays Due to Winter Weather
Denver International Airport (DIA) faced significant disruptions on Sunday with more than 250 flights delayed as a result of below-freezing temperatures and snow affecting the city for a third consecutive day. By 4:30 p.m., eight flights had been canceled at DIA, while 255 others failed to depart on time, according to data from flight tracking software FlightAware.
Among the airlines most impacted by the delays were United and its regional partner, Skywest, which combined for a total of 164 delayed flights. Southwest Airlines followed with 45 flights experiencing delays. United also led in cancellations, with six flights removed from its schedule, followed by JetBlue with two cancellations.
Other airlines affected by the adverse weather conditions included Frontier, Key Lime Air, Delta, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Jazz. In addition to local weather challenges, winter weather in the northeast also contributed to delays and cancellations at DIA, affecting flights to airports such as New Jersey’s Essex County Airport, New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, and Pennsylvania’s Philadelphia International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
On Sunday, New Jersey’s airport was closed due to winter weather conditions and was anticipated to reopen on Monday morning, as indicated by FAA officials. Passengers traveling from Denver to New York experienced delays of up to three hours at DIA, while those heading to Philadelphia faced average delays of 45 minutes, according to the FAA.
