NAPTIP Summons Speed Darlington for Alleged Sexual Misconduct

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially summoned musician Mr. Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor.

The controversy erupted after Speed Darlington made disturbing claims during an Instagram Live session, where he alleged having had a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl. The remarks quickly sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms.

According to Punch Metro, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency escalated the matter to NAPTIP, calling for a thorough investigation into the singer’s comments.

In response to the public backlash, Speed Darlington released a follow-up video claiming his earlier statement was meant as a promotional stunt for an upcoming song. He also apologized for any offense or discomfort his comments may have caused.

In a statement issued Thursday, NAPTIP confirmed it has summoned the artist for questioning and warned that further action would be taken if he fails to comply with the agency’s directive.

It wrote, “Mr. Darlington Okoye (AKA Speed Darlington) is urged to respond to the official invitation issued on May 28, 2025, regarding a viral video and others in which he admitted to sexually abusing a minor. Failure to respond may lead to further action.”

The two-page summon read, “We write to formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in respect of certain video materials recently circulated online, including but not limited to a particular Instagram video wherein you allegedly made statements admitting to having engaged in sexual acts with an underage girl. Additional archived videos, now in circulation, similarly contain admissions and degrading commentary concerning minors.

“These actions, if substantiated, constitute offenses under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015 and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015. You are hereby invited to appear in person for an interview as regards the alleged actions on Friday, 30th May, 2025, by 9 a.m. at the NAPTIP Headquarters: 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT.

“Kindly bring along any legal representation or documents you may consider relevant. Please be informed that your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter. Failure to honor this invitation may result in further legal action.”
