File photo of a worried woman
Dear GhanaWeb,
As a final-year nursing student at the age of 24, I find myself in a challenging relationship with a 34-year-old man. Our relationship began three years ago, and it has been marred by his lack of employment.
Initially, he claimed that he was waiting for his travel documents to seek opportunities abroad, but as time passed, it became evident that this plan was not materializing. Despite my attempts to encourage him to find work locally and build a future here in Ghana, he has remained passive and unmotivated.
I have supported him emotionally and financially throughout our relationship, believing in his potential and hoping for a better future together. However, his persistent excuses and lack of ambition have started to wear me down.
As someone who values integrity and hard work, I am conflicted about whether to continue this relationship. Despite our shared commitment to abstinence before marriage, I cannot ignore the growing sense of frustration and disappointment in his stagnant situation.
Watching his peers progress in their careers and personal lives while he remains stagnant has become increasingly difficult for me to bear. I am torn between loyalty and self-preservation, wondering if it would be selfish to prioritize my own well-being and future.
I am seeking guidance on how to navigate this situation and make a decision that aligns with my values and aspirations. Your insights and advice would be greatly appreciated.
