MTN Ghana, one of the leading telecom companies in the country, once again demonstrated its commitment to giving back to the community through its annual ‘Save a Life’ Blood Donation exercise. The event, organized by the MTN Foundation, took place on February 14, 2025, at the company’s headquarters in Accra. Similar initiatives were held simultaneously in all 16 regions of Ghana, with the aim of collecting 6,110 units of blood to replenish the national blood bank for use in state health facilities.

In Accra, the blood donation drive was carried out in collaboration with the 37 Military Hospital, where military doctors oversaw the donation process to ensure the safety and well-being of the donors. The event, known as the “Save A Life” Blood Donation Campaign, attracted participation from MTN staff, subscribers, and business partners, all eager to contribute to this noble cause.

Nana Kofi Asare, the Acting Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, spoke at the event and stressed the importance of voluntary blood donation. He highlighted how crucial blood donations are in healthcare, especially in providing timely transfusions to patients in need. “The gift of life is the greatest act of love, and blood donation plays a vital role in saving lives,” he emphasized. Asare also urged Ghanaians to embrace blood donation as a civic duty and a symbol of compassion, encouraging them to make it a regular habit rather than just an annual event.

The CEO of the National Blood Service, Dr. Shirley Owusu-Ofori, commended MTN Ghana for the successful organization of the 2025 edition of the Save A Life blood donation campaign. She noted that since the inception of the initiative in 2011, a total of 29,000 units of blood have been collected, with last year’s exercise alone contributing 5,901 units. This collaboration between the MTN Foundation and the National Blood Service has had a significant impact on the availability of blood for medical treatments in Ghana.

In conclusion, MTN Ghana expressed its gratitude to all the volunteers, healthcare professionals, and donors who participated in the 2025 blood drive. The company remains committed to supporting initiatives that make a positive impact on the health and well-being of the Ghanaian population. By promoting voluntary blood donation, MTN Foundation continues to demonstrate its dedication to saving lives and contributing to the overall welfare of the community.
