MTN Ghana recently kicked off the 2025 edition of its annual employee volunteer programme, “21 Days of Y’ello Care,” with a group picture featuring the MTN CEO, executives, Y’ello Care partners, and beneficiaries. The theme for this year’s programme is “Connecting at the Root: Connecting Communities Through the Use of Digital Tools.”
The focus of this year’s initiative is to address the issue of digital inequity that impacts rural, remote, and marginalised communities. The goal is to leverage technology to bridge the digital divide and empower these communities through various digital initiatives.
During the 21 Days of Y’ello Care, MTN Ghana employee volunteers across all 16 regions will be involved in activities such as teaching digital skills to young men and women, helping small businesses establish an online presence, introducing farmers to mobile solutions, setting up a smart farm in the Northern Region, supporting community ICT hubs with digital tools, setting up a pottery shed for women in Torgome and educating them on Momo usage, sewing uniforms for children in deprived communities, and more.
At the opening ceremony, the CEO of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, highlighted the importance of addressing digital inequity in Ghana. He emphasized the need for digital transformation to start at the community level and encouraged MTN employee volunteers to make a positive impact during the 21 Days of Y’ello Care.
The Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Baba Issifu Seidu, commended MTN for its commitment to sustainable development and acknowledged the company’s role in transforming communities and changing lives. He praised MTN for being a true agent of change and aligning its initiatives with national goals.
The 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme was launched in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi, with key stakeholders and past beneficiaries in attendance. Y’ello Care is an annual employee volunteer programme across the MTN Group, aimed at engaging staff in community development projects in countries where MTN operates.
Since its inception in 2007, the Y’ello Care initiative has made a significant impact on millions of people and communities across the continent. The programme continues to demonstrate MTN’s commitment to sustainable leadership and community development.
In conclusion, the 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme serves as a reminder of the power of digital tools in connecting communities and driving positive change.
