Tragic Motorcycle Crash Claims the Life of 21-Year-Old Rider in Thornton
On Friday morning, a devastating crash took the life of a 21-year-old motorcyclist in Thornton. The young man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was attempting to navigate between lanes on E. 144th Avenue when the accident occurred. According to Officer Kimberly Twinem of the Thornton Police Department, the motorcyclist collided with the back of a pickup truck and tragically succumbed to his injuries. The investigation into the incident is still in its early stages.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed in the collision. In response to the incident, the area surrounding the crash site was temporarily closed to allow for a thorough investigation to take place.
Officer Twinem emphasized that the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene following the crash. She also clarified that while lane filtering, which involves motorcycles moving between lanes of stationary traffic, is permitted in Colorado, lane splitting, where motorcycles navigate between lanes of moving traffic, is not allowed.
