The recent chaos in Parliament has not gone unnoticed by the Mankrado of Battor, Togbe Borbordzi Xevi VII, who expressed his disappointment with the behavior of some MPs on the Appointment Committee. In a recent statement, Togbe Borbordzi Xevi VII criticized the MPs for their lack of professionalism during the vetting process.

“Some of these MPs, though not all, behave like they’ve… I’m very sorry to use this term, but they behave like they’ve drunk something,” Togbe Borbordzi Xevi VII said. He emphasized that the MPs should see the opportunity to vet nominees as a chance to prove their capabilities on behalf of the public.

According to the chief, some MPs on the committee fail to ask relevant questions of the nominees and often demonstrate a lack of understanding of their responsibilities. Togbe Borbordzi Xevi VII strongly condemned the behavior of the MPs, stating that they are tarnishing the image of Ghana’s democracy.

“For me, I am deeply disappointed in some of our parliamentarians. They have let down Ghanaians and the world. The position of MP is a high office, but some of them behave like children when they go to Parliament. A whole MP, who is a university graduate, goes to Parliament and engages in fights, breaking chairs and tables. What kind of behavior is that?” he questioned.

Togbe Borbordzi Xevi VII highlighted the importance of MPs being aware of their actions, especially since they are constantly under public scrutiny. He emphasized that the behavior of some MPs is not only embarrassing for Ghana but also detrimental to the country’s democracy.

In response to the disturbances in Parliament, the Speaker has appointed an investigative committee led by MP for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, to look into the matter. The committee has already begun public hearings to gather evidence and will present its findings to the Speaker for further action.

It is essential for MPs to uphold the integrity of Parliament and demonstrate professionalism in their duties. The actions of a few should not overshadow the hard work and dedication of the majority of MPs who strive to serve the public interest. As Ghana’s democracy continues to evolve, it is crucial for all elected officials to uphold the highest standards of conduct and accountability.
