MC Yaa Yeboah, a well-known media personality, recently opened up about her challenging childhood experiences filled with adversity and hardship. Growing up in the Accra Newtown Zongo slums, she faced a multitude of difficulties that shaped her into the person she is today.

During a candid interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, Yeboah shared how her surroundings in the slums exposed her to violence and various negative influences. She described the struggle of navigating through the tough environment, where there was a lack of guidance and support to shape her thinking and behavior.

Reflecting on her family life, Yeboah revealed that her mother, although she did her best, was often absent due to travel, leaving her with pre-cooked meals and minimal emotional support. Her father, initially a good man, turned abusive over time, leading to a strained relationship between them.

To escape the turmoil at home, Yeboah found solace in working with a savings and loans company during school breaks. Eventually, she made the brave decision to run away from home and wander the streets of Abeka, often pretending to be stranded and seeking help from strangers.

One particularly distressing incident involved being taken to a police station, where she narrowly escaped assault by a policeman. Grateful for being rescued, Yeboah recounted the harrowing experience with a mix of relief and gratitude.

Upon her return home, Yeboah’s father showed little concern for her well-being, prompting her to make the difficult choice to leave the house. After completing sixth form, she moved in with a friend named Adwoa Pokua, who provided her with the care and support she desperately needed.

Yeboah expressed deep gratitude for Pokua’s kindness, recalling how her friend’s boyfriend even gave her money to celebrate her first birthday. This act of generosity left a lasting impact on Yeboah, highlighting the importance of supportive friendships during challenging times.

Despite her tumultuous past, Yeboah’s life has taken a positive turn, leading her to a successful career in the media industry. Her resilience and determination to overcome adversity serve as an inspiration to many, showcasing the power of perseverance and the impact of supportive relationships in shaping one’s journey towards success.
