Sources say the ANC’s latest intervention in the province is aimed at replacing the secretary general’s opponents with loyalists

The African National Congress (ANC) has made significant moves in the province, with the intention of replacing the current secretary general’s opponents with loyalists, according to insider sources. This strategic intervention is part of a larger political maneuver aimed at consolidating power within the party.

Key figures within the ANC, including Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, have been at the forefront of unveiling the party’s 55th National Conference Resolutions. These resolutions are seen as crucial in shaping the future direction of the ANC and its policies.

One of the central figures in this political landscape is Ace Magashule, whose influence has been a point of contention within the party. The ANC’s decision to replace his opponents with loyalists signals a shift in power dynamics and a concerted effort to maintain unity within the party.

Other notable figures involved in this political chess game include David Mabuza, Paul Mashatile, and Mxolisi Dukwana, all of whom play key roles in shaping the party’s direction. The recent moves by the ANC in the province are seen as a calculated strategy to secure support and ensure cohesion within its ranks.

As the country gears up for the 2026 local government elections, the ANC’s internal dynamics and power struggles will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the political landscape. The decisions made at the party level will have far-reaching implications for the future of South Africa.
