Manchester United Suffers Another Defeat in Asia
Manchester United’s disappointing season continued as they were defeated 1-0 by Southeast Asian XI in Kuala Lumpur, in front of a crowd of 72,550.
The team, which finished 15th in the Premier League, their worst finish since 1974, looked lethargic and uninspired in the scorching 32°C heat.
Disgruntled fans left Bukit Jalil National Stadium early, and boos filled the air at the final whistle.
Despite fielding key players like Harry Maguire, Rasmus Højlund, Casemiro, Diogo Dalot, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, and André Onana, Manchester United struggled to make an impact.
The ASEAN All Stars looked more threatening, with Filipino defender Amani Aguinaldo coming close in the 16th minute and forcing a save from Onana.
Mainoo had United’s best chances, with a long-range effort saved and another shot cleared off the line in the first half.
Bruno Fernandes injected some energy when he came on in the second half, but it was not enough to change the outcome.
In the 71st minute, Maung Maung Lwin scored a spectacular goal for the home team, leaving United stunned. Despite a late surge, United couldn’t find an equalizer.
United will now head to Hong Kong for their next friendly match on Friday, hoping to turn their fortunes around.
