Arsenal and Liverpool Secure Quarter-Final Spots
Ruud van Nistelrooy, the interim manager of Manchester United, marked his debut with a 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the League Cup, advancing to the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Manchester City suffered a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham and were eliminated from the competition.
Arsenal and Liverpool also secured their spots in the last eight, with Chelsea facing a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle.
Van Nistelrooy, a former United player, took on the role of caretaker manager after Erik ten Hag was sacked due to a poor start to the season. Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim is reportedly in negotiations to take over as the new manager.
Despite the uncertainty, Van Nistelrooy expressed his commitment to the club, stating, “I came here as an assistant to help the club. I’m here to help the club build towards the future.”

Arsenal also secured a comfortable 3-0 win against Preston, with teenager Ethan Nwaneri impressing with a sensational goal. They will now face Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals.
Newcastle’s revenge against Chelsea, with goals from Alexander Isak and an own goal from Axel Disasi, secured their spot in the last four. They will host Brentford in the upcoming round.
