‘Creating a Legacy’: Orbit Head Coach Reflects on Historic Promotion to Betway Premiership
After seven long years, Betway Premiership football is finally returning to the North West region, thanks to the remarkable efforts of Orbit FC head coach, Pogiso Makhoye. The recent victory over Cape Town City in the promotion/relegation play-offs at Olympia Park in Rustenburg has secured Orbit’s spot in the Premiership, marking a significant milestone for the club and the community.
Makhoye, in a heartfelt tribute to the people of the North West, expressed his desire to leave a lasting legacy through the team’s success. “I wanted to create a legacy, I said one day we must promote this team to the NFD (Championship) and take them to the PSL (Premiership). I dedicate this to the people of the North West. We are like Moses, we have taken them from Egypt to the land of milk and honey. I am so proud of these boys,” he shared.
With Orbit’s rise to the Premiership, Cape Town City now faces the daunting task of competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season. This unexpected turn of events marks a stark contrast to the club’s previous top-eight finishes in the Premiership since its establishment in 2016.
Leading the charge for Orbit was Letsie Koapeng, whose crucial goal sealed the team’s promotion victory. The seasoned striker, acquired during the January transfer window, proved to be a valuable asset in Orbit’s journey towards success.
‘We Knew This Was Our Moment’
Reflecting on the team’s strategic signings in January, Makhoye emphasized the importance of experience in shaping Orbit’s performance. “When we signed Koapeng, (Tshepo) Matsemela, and (Moikhomotsi) Thibedi in January, we brought them for their experience,” he explained. Orbit’s impressive performance in the NFD and their close competition with Durban City for promotion highlighted the team’s determination and readiness for the Premiership.
As Orbit celebrates their historic achievement, the journey towards establishing themselves as a competitive force in the Betway Premiership begins. With Makhoye’s vision and the team’s unwavering dedication, the North West region can look forward to a new era of football excellence and pride.
