Former Spanish Football Chief Luis Rubiales Found Guilty of Sexual Assault
A recent court ruling in Spain has found former football chief Luis Rubiales guilty of sexual assault for forcibly kissing player Jenni Hermoso.
As a result of the incident, Rubiales has been fined €10,800 by the court. However, he and three others involved in the case were acquitted of coercion charges.
Initially, prosecutors had sought a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Rubiales. The incident in question took place following Spain’s victory at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia.
Jenni Hermoso, the player involved, asserted that she did not consent to the kiss. The aftermath of the incident sparked a global outcry, leading to Rubiales stepping down as president of the Spanish Football Federation.
