The latest beauty trend that is taking the world by storm is the ‘Liquid Lunch Facial’. This innovative treatment promises to turn back the hands of time and give you a more youthful and refreshed appearance, all without the need for surgery and with minimal downtime. Dr Maureen Allem, an aesthetic doctor at Skin Renewal, explains the age-defying benefits of Botox and dermal fillers in this exclusive interview with The Citizen.

The Liquid Lunch Facial, known as such in countries like the U.S. and the U.K., has now made its way to South Africa. This treatment involves a combination of Botulinum toxin (Botox) and dermal fillers to smooth out wrinkles, lift sagging features, and restore volume to the face. The best part? You can squeeze this treatment into your lunch break and walk out with a rejuvenated look in just two hours.

Dr Maureen emphasizes that this treatment is not just a quick fix, but a scientifically backed solution to combat the signs of aging. By using the right products and skilled injectors, you can achieve a younger and fresher appearance without going under the knife.

Botulinum toxin works to relax dynamic wrinkles, while dermal fillers add volume and structure to the face. The goal is not to freeze the face but to enhance your natural beauty and achieve a harmonious and balanced look from forehead to jawline.

The effects of Botox typically start to show within seven to 14 days and last for three to four months, while fillers can last up to 15 years, with most people opting for touch-ups every 12 to 18 months. Dr Maureen cautions against overdoing it, as recent studies have shown that fillers can remain in the body for several years.

Aftercare tips are essential to maximize the results of the Liquid Lunch Facial. For Botox, it is advised to stay upright for three to four hours post-treatment, use sunscreen, and ice any swelling or bruises. For fillers, it is recommended to wait 24 hours before applying makeup, cleanse gently, and stay hydrated.

The use of micro-cannulas at Skin Renewal ensures safer and smarter injections for dermal filler application. These cannulas cause less trauma, reduce the risk of bruising, and are ideal for sensitive areas like under the eyes or cheeks.

Patients are urged to ensure that only registered injectables are used in their treatments, approved by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority. Dr Maureen warns against using grey market products, as they can be dangerous.

Touch-ups for Botox are typically done every three to four months, while the timing for fillers varies based on the product and area treated. It is essential to follow up after two weeks for result checks and adjustments if necessary.

The Liquid Lunch Facial offers a non-surgical approach to achieving a more youthful appearance without downtime. With expert injectors and quality products, this treatment is becoming the go-to for those who want to glow without the need for invasive procedures. Dr Maureen emphasizes that you don’t need to go under the knife to look younger, you just need the right hands and the right plan.
