The Lions are gearing up for two crucial United Rugby Championship (URC) matches against Scarlets and Ospreys, teams they have struggled against in recent encounters. The Joburg side breathed a sigh of relief after snapping a five-game losing streak with a convincing 26-7 victory over Connacht at Ellis Park. This win propelled them to 13th place on the URC log, just six points behind the playoff cutoff line currently occupied by Benetton.

Despite their recent triumph, the Lions face an uphill battle as they prepare to face Scarlets and Ospreys, two teams that have proven to be tough opponents in the past. Scarlets, currently sitting in seventh place on the log, have had a mixed run of form with three wins in their last six games, including a surprising victory over table-toppers Leinster. However, their inconsistency leaves room for uncertainty, making them a formidable challenge for the Lions.

The Lions will look to capitalize on the momentum from their win against Connacht as they face Scarlets on May 11th. With a two-win, one-loss record against Scarlets, the Lions will be aiming to secure another crucial victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, their focus will then shift to Ospreys, a team that has had the upper hand in recent encounters with a three-win, two-loss record against the Lions.

Ospreys’ dominance over the Lions in previous URC and Challenge Cup matches presents a tough challenge for the Joburg side. Having lost all three encounters against Ospreys since their last victory in 2022, the Lions will need to dig deep to secure a much-needed win. With their playoff aspirations hanging in the balance, the Lions will need to be at their best to overcome the formidable challenge posed by Ospreys.

As the Lions prepare to face Scarlets and Ospreys in their final URC league matches, they will need to draw upon their recent success against Connacht and approach the games with determination and focus. The outcome of these matches could ultimately determine their playoff fate, making it essential for the Lions to deliver strong performances against two tough opponents.
