Former Western Regional Football Association chairman Kojo Yankah has pointed fingers at Sports Minister Kofi Adams for the Black Stars’ disappointing 1-1 draw with Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The match, which took place at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno in N’Djamena, saw Ghana take the lead through Jordan Ayew’s 17th-minute goal. However, a late equalizer from Ecua Celestin denied Otto Addo’s men a crucial victory.
Yankah believes that Adams’ decision to publicize changes to the Black Stars’ budget just before the game had a negative impact on the team’s performance.
“Kofi Adams, who is the Sports Minister, must be blamed for this result,” Yankah expressed on Asempa FM.
“You don’t come out to disclose a budget a day or two before the team plays a crucial game. I am wondering if he even consulted the Management Committee or even the players before reading the budget. I knew there would be trouble when he decided to do that, and here we are now.”
Yankah, who is affiliated with the NDC, emphasized that such actions should not be repeated, drawing parallels to a similar incident involving Nii Lante Vanderpuye.
Despite the setback against Chad, Ghana still leads Group I with 16 points, maintaining a three-point gap ahead of Madagascar and four points ahead of Mali after seven rounds of matches. The Black Stars will now shift their focus to a crucial game against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.
