Luka Doncic‘s $5,000 donation has played a pivotal role in the restoration of the DTLA mural paying tribute to the late Kobe and Gigi Bryant. The mural, which was defaced amid a dispute between street artists, has been fully restored.
The restoration project involved a fresh paint job to bring the mural back to its original state. Last month, the mural was found covered in white paint and graffiti, but it now stands tall with Kobe holding a baby Gigi, the iconic L.A. skyline, and the words “Mamba Forever.”
The newly restored mural now stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Kobe and Gigi Bryant, capturing the essence of their bond and impact on the community.
Although the initial vandalization of the mural remains a mystery, it appears to have stemmed from a disagreement involving the artist, Sloe Motions.
The defacement included scribbling out the artist’s tag and a message directed at him, which was later replaced with conflicting statements. Sloe Motions initiated a fundraiser to support the restoration efforts, ultimately exceeding the fundraising goal with contributions from Doncic and other supporters, totaling nearly $6,000.
With the mural now restored to its former glory, it is hoped that any conflicts surrounding it have been resolved, allowing this powerful tribute to Kobe and Gigi Bryant to stand undisturbed for years to come.
