Gilbert Kiprotich made history at the recent KGL Millennium Marathon, clinching a new record and leading a Kenyan clean sweep of the elite races at Black Star Square.

Record-Breaking Performances

Kiprotich’s remarkable time of 1:00:59 in the men’s division shattered previous marathon records, securing him the top prize of 85,000 cedis. He was closely followed by Alfred Cherunoi (1:01:04) and Paul Eyanae (1:02:12) in a display of Kenyan dominance.

In the women’s elite race, Hympha Kiteta, only 20 years old, showcased her talent with a winning time of 1:07:42, claiming the same 85,000 cedi prize. Lucy Ndambuki (1:10:25) and Eunice Muchiri (1:13:00) rounded out the podium positions.

Community Races Success

Ghanaian athletes excelled in the 5-kilometer community races, with Abotsi Daniel Gawuga, Emmanuel Kwatey, and Germain K. Dzorgbesi taking the top spots in the men’s category. Anai Jennifer, Tuolong Rener, and Bramah Rabiatu stood out in the women’s division.

These winners not only received 4,000 cedis but also sponsor products, highlighting the event’s commitment to recognizing local talent alongside international competition.

Commendations and Recognition

CEO of KGL Foundation, Elliott Dadey, and co-founder Cathy Morton congratulated all participants and winners for their outstanding performances. National Sports Authority Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah also commended the young student athletes who took part in the event.

The marathon, certified by World Athletics, has become a significant fixture in African athletics, attracting top talent while promoting community engagement and sporting excellence.

Future of the KGL Millennium Marathon

The success of the 2025 edition solidifies the KGL Millennium Marathon’s position as a premier event on the African running calendar. With a theme of “DARE TO DO: RUN WITH PURPOSE,” the marathon continues to promote health, wellness, and international sportsmanship in Ghana.
