Gilbert Kiprotich made history at the recent KGL Millennium Marathon, clinching a new record and leading a Kenyan clean sweep of the elite races at Black Star Square.
Record-Breaking Performances
Kiprotich’s remarkable time of 1:00:59 in the men’s division shattered previous marathon records, securing him the top prize of 85,000 cedis. He was closely followed by Alfred Cherunoi (1:01:04) and Paul Eyanae (1:02:12) in a display of Kenyan dominance.
In the women’s elite race, Hympha Kiteta, only 20 years old, showcased her talent with a winning time of 1:07:42, claiming the same 85,000 cedi prize. Lucy Ndambuki (1:10:25) and Eunice Muchiri (1:13:00) rounded out the podium positions.
Community Races Success
Ghanaian athletes excelled in the 5-kilometer community races, with Abotsi Daniel Gawuga, Emmanuel Kwatey, and Germain K. Dzorgbesi taking the top spots in the men’s category. Anai Jennifer, Tuolong Rener, and Bramah Rabiatu stood out in the women’s division.
These winners not only received 4,000 cedis but also sponsor products, highlighting the event’s commitment to recognizing local talent alongside international competition.
