Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) secured a vital victory in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, defeating Mbarara City 1-0 at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo. The win ended a four-match winless streak for KCCA and lifted them to sixth place in the league standings with 37 points, level with SC Villa.
The only goal of the game came in the 67th minute when Usama Arafat found the back of the net with an assist from Yian Gatbel. This victory marked a turnaround for Jackson Magera’s side, who had suffered a 4-0 defeat to Kitara in their previous match, resulting in the dismissal of coach Abdallah Mubiru.
Speaking of Kitara, they also played out a goalless draw with SC Villa at Wankulukuku. Despite the draw, Kitara maintained their fifth position in the standings due to a superior goal difference over both KCCA and Villa.
In another match, BUL secured a 2-1 victory over Wakiso Giants at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium. Najib Fesali opened the scoring for BUL in the eighth minute with an assist from Joremy Kirya, while an own goal by Martin Mukiibi doubled their lead in the 55th minute. Wakiso Giants managed to pull one back through Hudson Mbalire, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
BUL’s win was their 12th of the season, keeping them in third place with 46 points, trailing leaders Vipers SC by 13 points. Wakiso Giants, on the other hand, remain third from bottom in the league standings with 19 points.
With just five matches remaining in the season, the race for the title and survival in the league is heating up. KCCA will be looking to build on their recent victory and climb further up the table, while teams like SC Villa, Kitara, and Wakiso Giants will be fighting hard to secure their top-flight status.
