Juror Dismissed from Diddy Trial Over Residency Confusion
A juror in the sex trafficking trial of American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has been dismissed after providing conflicting information about his residence.
During the jury selection process, the juror initially stated in a questionnaire that he lived in the Bronx, New York. However, he later informed a court staff member that he had moved in with his girlfriend in New Jersey.
Judge Arun Subramanian noted “multiple inconsistencies” in the juror’s statements in court records, suggesting a possible intent to deceive in order to secure a spot on the jury.
Combs’ legal team raised concerns about the dismissal, arguing that removing a black male juror could bias the trial against their client. As a result, a 57-year-old white father from Westchester has been selected as the replacement juror.
Combs, aged 55, has maintained his innocence against charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitution.
Discussions about the juror’s potential removal have been ongoing for a week, with lead prosecutor Maurene Comey ultimately requesting the dismissal.
The prosecution revealed that the dismissed juror had recently moved to New Jersey with his girlfriend and primarily resided there during the trial. However, he claimed to stay in a Bronx apartment for four to five nights each workweek while fulfilling his jury duty.
Earlier, during a prospective juror interview, the same juror had stated living in the Bronx with his fiancée and daughter. He also mentioned residing with an aunt at one point but later omitted her from his responses.
Judge Subramanian cited the inconsistencies in the juror’s statements as cause for concern, questioning his honesty and ability to follow instructions effectively.
