Stellantis Appoints Antonio Filosa as New CEO
Stellantis, the global automotive giant known for brands like Jeep, Peugeot, and Fiat, has announced the appointment of Antonio Filosa as its new Chief Executive Officer. Filosa will be taking over from Carlos Tavares, who left the company unexpectedly in December amid challenges with US tariffs and declining North American sales.
Filosa, an Italian manager with extensive experience in leading Stellantis operations in both North and South America, was unanimously chosen by the board after an extensive search for internal and external candidates. The company plans to hold an extraordinary shareholder meeting to formally elect Filosa to the board as an executive director, with his full CEO powers set to take effect on June 23.
The decision to appoint Filosa was based on his proven track record in the automotive industry, global experience, deep knowledge of the company, and strong leadership qualities. With over 25 years in the industry, Filosa has demonstrated hands-on success in various roles.
Stellantis, home to brands like Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, and Maserati, has been facing challenges in the North American market, with declining sales exacerbated by US tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. The company recently withdrew its annual financial guidance due to uncertainties surrounding these tariffs.
Prior to his appointment as CEO, Filosa served as the CEO of the Jeep brand and later as Chief Operating Officer for the Americas region. In his new role, Filosa has been focusing on strengthening US operations, reducing dealership inventories, and reorganizing the leadership team to address the current challenges facing the company.
Carlos Tavares, Filosa’s predecessor, oversaw the merger that brought together multiple brands under the Stellantis umbrella in 2021. While his tenure initially saw high profit margins, the company’s performance began to decline last year as sales dropped in the United States.
