Maxwel Cornet joins Genoa on Loan from West Ham
Genoa has announced the signing of Maxwel Cornet on loan from West Ham United. The Ivory Coast international, known for his versatility as a winger and left-back, joins Genoa after being recalled from a loan spell at Southampton where he struggled to make an impact, featuring in only four matches.
The former Lyon player, who has represented his country 31 times and scored six goals, lifted the Europa Conference League trophy with West Ham in 2023, marking the most significant achievement of his career so far.
Under the guidance of former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira, Genoa currently occupies the 12th spot in the Serie A standings, sitting four points above the relegation zone. Their recent 3-1 defeat to Roma highlighted the team’s need for reinforcements.
Following the takeover by Romanian businessman Dan Sucu, Genoa is undergoing a period of change, with plans to part ways with Mario Balotelli. The enigmatic Italian striker has found himself on the fringes of the squad under Vieira’s management, having played a minimal role since joining as a free agent in October.
