The Interior Ministry of Ghana has recently been recognized as the top-performing institution in the country, according to a new report by the Africa Centre for Entrepreneurship and Youth Empowerment (ACEYE). The report, titled “Index of Government Institutions’ Performance Towards Economic Prosperity” (IGIPTEP), evaluated the performance of various government institutions in Ghana based on criteria such as service delivery quality, transparency, financial management, and public engagement.
The Ministry of Interior stood out with an impressive overall score of 80.8%, highlighting its crucial role in ensuring national security and public safety. Additionally, the ministry scored 80% in public engagement, demonstrating its commitment to involving the public in decision-making processes.
Despite its strong performance, the report also pointed out some areas for improvement within the Ministry of Interior. These included issues such as limited transparency in fund allocation and instances of contract mismanagement. Addressing these weaknesses could further enhance the ministry’s overall effectiveness.
The Ministry of Interior outperformed 50 other state institutions in the report, including prominent entities like the Bank of Ghana, Parliament, and the Court of Appeal. This recognition underscores the ministry’s significant impact on governance and public service delivery in Ghana.
The official launch of the report took place on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. The event featured guest speakers such as the Minister for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, Joyce Lee from Atlas Network, Fred McMahon, Resident Fellow, Dr. Michael A. Walker Chair in Economic Freedom, and Franklin Cudjoe of Imani Africa. Their insights and perspectives added depth to the discussion surrounding government institution performance in Ghana.
