In the slums of Wakaliga, located on the outskirts of Uganda’s bustling capital Kampala, lies a hidden gem that has been captivating audiences for the past two decades. Wakaliwood, an independent film studio, has been pushing boundaries and defying norms with its unique blend of action and martial arts films, all produced on shoestring budgets.

Despite facing numerous financial struggles over the years, Wakaliwood has managed to carve out a niche for itself in the world of cinema. The studio’s films, which combine ultra-violence, comedy, and tributes to classic Bruce Lee movies, have garnered a cult following both locally and internationally. One of Wakaliwood’s most notable successes came in 2010 with the release of “Who Killed Captain Alex?”, a viral sensation that amassed over 10 million views on YouTube.

Now, after much anticipation, the long-awaited sequel to “Who Killed Captain Alex?” is set to make its debut, promising to reignite the passion and excitement that fans have come to associate with Wakaliwood. The film is expected to once again showcase the studio’s signature style, featuring over-the-top action sequences, quirky humor, and a healthy dose of homage to martial arts classics.

FRANCE 24’s Clément Di Roma recently visited Wakaliga to report on the studio’s latest project. The documentary provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of Wakaliwood, highlighting the creativity and resourcefulness of its filmmakers. Despite the challenges they face, the team at Wakaliwood remains dedicated to producing high-quality, entertaining films that resonate with audiences both at home and abroad.

As Wakaliwood continues to push boundaries and challenge conventions, it is clear that this unique film studio has a bright future ahead. With the release of the highly anticipated sequel, fans can look forward to experiencing more of the exhilarating and innovative cinema that has made Wakaliwood a true cinematic treasure.
