President-elect John Mahama has delivered a resounding message to individuals vying for positions in his upcoming administration, stressing the importance of serving the nation with humility and dedication. During a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 15 December 2024, at the Assemblies of God Ringway Gospel Centre in Accra, Mahama reiterated the need for public servants to prioritize the welfare of Ghanaians over personal ambition.

In a firm statement, Mahama cautioned aspiring appointees, stating, “If you are not willing to serve the people diligently with modesty and humility, then don’t come, just stay where you are.” This declaration underscores the President-elect’s commitment to forming a government that remains accountable and responsive to the needs of the electorate.

Reflecting on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections, Mahama acknowledged the lessons to be learned from the outcome, particularly for political leaders. He urged his incoming administration to be mindful of its responsibilities, warning that any government failing to meet the expectations of the people risks facing similar consequences.

Mahama emphasized the power held by the electorate, stating, “When they have reached their limit, they will show you that power belongs to them and that it is God who has given that power.” This serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of neglecting the needs and aspirations of the Ghanaian people.

Discussing the role of political elites, Mahama admitted to the prevalence of arrogance and self-interest among leaders, including himself, over time. He acknowledged the tendency for political elites to believe that power belonged to them rather than recognizing it as a temporary gift from God.

Mahama urged his government to learn from past mistakes and focus on serving Ghanaians with humility. He emphasized that public office is not a platform for self-enrichment but an opportunity to effect meaningful change for the people.

By setting clear expectations for his administration, Mahama aims to restore public trust and deliver on campaign promises. His call for modesty and diligence among potential appointees signals a renewed commitment to upholding accountability and integrity in governance.

As Ghanaians eagerly anticipate the incoming government, Mahama’s warning against self-serving attitudes signifies a dedication to prioritizing the needs of the people above all else. With a focus on humility and service, Mahama aims to chart a new course of governance that resonates with the aspirations of the Ghanaian populace.
