Unexpected Pregnancy: A Woman’s Shocking Discovery

Dear GhanaWeb,

I’m a 48-year-old woman, and I need answers.

I had my fallopian tubes tied 20 years ago. By the time I was 27, I already had six children, my first at just 16, and I felt enough was enough. I wanted to put an end to having more children.

I wasn’t well raised. I grew up with my mother, and I was a bit reckless. I got involved with men very early. The first man to take advantage of me, and get me pregnant, was actually my mother’s boyfriend.

She didn’t take any real action. She only got angry, demanded compensation, and let him go. But she helped raise the children, and for that, I give her credit, she did her best in her own way.

I tried to return to school, but I got pregnant again, this time by a teacher. I tried again, and it happened once more, with another teacher.

Eventually, I was getting involved with men who could help take care of the children. By the time I was 27, I had six children and had undergone two abortions.

At that point, I made a firm decision, I was done having children. I had my tubes tied and moved on with my life.

Thankfully, some of the men gave me small financial support, and my mother, who owned a large shop, two commercial vehicles, and had other income, helped me and my children. Most of her wealth came from men, but she invested in me and my kids.

After a while, I returned to school, expanded her shop, and now run it on her land. I still live in her house, though she has since passed away.

I’m not married, but I have a boyfriend. I’ve never worried about getting pregnant because, again, my tubes were tied, and most importantly, I haven’t seen my period in five years.

But here’s the shock: I recently took a pregnancy test, and it came back positive.

I didn’t believe it, so I did two more. All three came back positive. The results say I’m over two months pregnant.

Yet, I feel no different. My life hasn’t changed, I haven’t felt any symptoms, and I haven’t menstruated in years.

How is this even possible? Can a woman get pregnant with tied tubes and no period for five years? Is my body reacting to something else? Or am I truly pregnant?

I’m scared, confused, and need help understanding what’s going on.
