The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has made a commitment to collaborate closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in addressing the challenges facing football in the country.
Football in Ghana is currently facing difficulties, with the Black Stars’ early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, and their failure to qualify for the tournament for the first time since 2004.
Despite these challenges, Adams expressed in an interview with Asempa FM that he does not see the Football Association as the root of the problem. He emphasized his readiness to work together with the GFA to tackle the issues hindering the progress of football in the country.
Adams stated, “I don’t see the GFA as a problem. I see everyone as part of the solution to our challenge, and that will be my approach. Perhaps, in the past, we failed to give certain opportunities. I believe some things that were done before will not happen again.”
He also assured that any agreements reached in his discussions with the GFA will be transparent and shared with the public.
In preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar next month, Kofi Adams is scheduled to meet with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) once again this week.
Moreover, Adams has reiterated his commitment to supporting the Black Stars in securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He emphasized, “Whatever I need to do as the Sports Minister to ensure Ghana qualifies for the 2026 World Cup, I’ll do it.” Adams also called for the support of Ghanaians as the national team strives towards this crucial objective.
