A winter storm in Colorado has caused Interstate 70 to close in both directions between Silverthorne and the Eisenhower Tunnel. The closure is due to adverse road conditions, multiple crashes, and slide-offs, making travel unsafe for drivers. The Colorado Department of Transportation has issued a travel alert advising drivers to expect extended delays and avoid traveling through the area.
As of 8:30 p.m., eastbound I-70 is closed between exit 203 for east Frisco and exit 205 for Silverthorne for safety concerns. Westbound I-70 is closed at exit 216 for Loveland Pass, and U.S. 6 is closed in both directions over Loveland Pass, east of Keystone Ski Resort. These closures are also due to safety concerns caused by the severe weather conditions.
In addition to the closures on I-70, eastbound Interstate 76 is closed at Eagle Boulevard in Brighton in the Denver metro area due to a crash. The combination of heavy snowfall and icy road conditions has made travel treacherous in various parts of Colorado.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. In the meantime, drivers are advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas.
