Homeland Security warns of possible terrorist attacks in US following strike on Iran

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a terrorism alert, cautioning about potential Iranian attacks against the US in response to the American airstrikes on Tehran’s nuclear program. The alert, issued on Sunday, advises officials to remain vigilant for potential Iranian-led attacks over the next three months, as terror cells may be inspired to retaliate following the recent airstrikes.

According to a statement by the DHS, the likelihood of violent extremists within the US mobilizing towards violence in reaction to the conflict would increase if Iranian leaders issue a religious decree calling for retaliatory violence against targets in the US. This warning comes in the wake of escalating tensions between the US and Iran, with the recent strikes on Tehran’s nuclear facilities triggering protests and rallies in Iran.

In addition to the threat of extremist attacks on US soil, officials have also raised concerns about the possibility of cyberattacks and antisemitic acts. The alert underscores the need for heightened security measures and increased vigilance to protect against potential threats in the coming months.

Following the issuance of the DHS alert, the NYPD has also issued its own warning, prompting Governor Hochul to enhance security measures at key locations such as the MTA and Port Authority. The collaborative efforts of federal and local authorities aim to mitigate the risks posed by potential retaliatory actions from Iran and ensure the safety of the American public.

As tensions continue to escalate between the US and Iran, it is crucial for officials and law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert and take proactive steps to safeguard against any potential threats. The DHS alert serves as a reminder of the complex and evolving security challenges faced by the US in a volatile global landscape.
