Hearts of Oak Coach Pleased with Team’s Performance in Derby Draw
After a hard-fought goalless draw against archrivals Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League, Accra Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara expressed his contentment with his team’s performance. Ouattara, who took over as head coach in the 2023/24 season, acknowledged that while the team had aimed for a win, the draw was a fair outcome.
“I’ll take the draw. We came to win, but it’s a fair result,” remarked Ouattara. He highlighted the learning points that the game provided for both the technical team and the players, emphasizing the need to discuss and improve upon them moving forward.
Despite a solid defensive showing, Ouattara pointed out the team’s main shortcoming – the inability to find the back of the net. “What didn’t work was our inability to score,” he stated, recognizing this as a key issue that needs to be addressed as the season progresses.
The draw in this intense rivalry between Hearts of Oak and Kotoko, known as one of Africa’s fiercest football duels, adds another chapter to their storied history. With both teams still seeking consistency in the league, Ouattara remains optimistic that his side can build on this result and improve in the remaining four matches of the season.
