Haruna Iddrissu, Pablo make list as Prez. Mahama releases 2nd batch of ministers

President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled his promise to nominate a complete list of Cabinet Ministers within the first 14 days of his term. In a statement signed by Acting Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Thursday 16 January 2025, the President submitted a second batch of sector ministers for various portfolios, as well as regional minister nominees, to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.

The list includes nine minister of state-designates and three regional minister-designates, as part of the President’s efforts to form a capable and diverse team to lead the country. Among the notable names in this batch is former Minority Leader and MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrissu, who has been designated for the Education Ministry.

Additionally, former Deputy Tourism Minister and MP for Ketu South, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has been appointed as Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts. The National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, popularly known as Pablo, has also been nominated as Minister-designate for Youth Development and Empowerment.

The second batch of minister of state nominees also includes Kwame Governs Agbodza for the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Eric Opoku for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey for the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Emelia Arthur for the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Ahmed Ibrahim for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, and Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare for the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry.

In terms of regional ministers, Wilbert Petty Brentum has been nominated for Western North, Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere for Central, and Joseph Nelson for Western.

These nominations reflect President Mahama’s commitment to building a strong and capable government that is representative of the people it serves. The nominees will now undergo vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament before their official appointment. The President’s swift action in nominating his Cabinet Ministers demonstrates his dedication to fulfilling his campaign promises and working towards the development and progress of the nation.
