Guardiola’s side in control of their destiny‘The season has been bad’

In a thrilling encounter at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Aston Villa with a stoppage-time winner from Matheus Nunes. The City head coach, Pep Guardiola, was visibly ecstatic as he celebrated the late goal, highlighting the importance of the result in their quest for a top-five finish and Champions League qualification.

Guardiola’s side in control of their destiny

City had been on the brink of dropping points before Nunes’s dramatic winner, which now puts them in control of their fate with four games remaining in the Premier League season. Guardiola expressed his delight at the team’s last-gasp success, acknowledging that late goals have not been a common occurrence for City this season.

Guardiola stated, “We’re not used to it. That belongs to Liverpool especially, how many times did they score late winners under Jurgen Klopp and Arsenal under Mikel Arteta as well? I’m not used to it, so I’m really, really happy.”

With the victory over Villa, City now find themselves in a strong position to secure a Champions League spot, a significant achievement considering the challenges they have faced throughout the season.

‘The season has been bad’

Reflecting on City’s campaign, Guardiola acknowledged the difficulties they have encountered but praised the team’s resilience and determination. Despite relinquishing their Premier League title, Guardiola emphasized the importance of finishing the season on a positive note and securing a top-five finish.

Seventh-placed Villa, on the other hand, suffered a setback in their pursuit of European qualification following the late defeat to City. Manager Unai Emery urged his players to regroup quickly and focus on their upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace, emphasizing the need to maintain their competitive spirit and continue striving for success.
