Accra Hearts of Oak Earn First-Ever Point Against FC Samartex 1996 in GPL Clash

Accra Hearts of Oak made history by securing their first-ever point against FC Samartex 1996 at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Sunday afternoon in a thrilling Ghana Premier League (GPL) matchday 17 encounter.

The Phobians, who had previously suffered defeats in their last two visits to the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, surprised fans with a resilient performance that ended their losing streak in a match filled with intense action.

Defending champions Samartex started the game on the front foot, coming close to scoring in the 14th minute, but their shot narrowly missed the post.

Despite Samartex’s early dominance, both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances, resulting in a goalless first half.

After the break, Samartex continued to dominate possession. However, Hearts of Oak had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Hamzah Issah, assisted by Mawuli Wayo, saw his shot saved brilliantly by the Samartex goalkeeper.

Both sides displayed exceptional effort throughout the match, but neither could find the back of the net, leading to a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes.

Current Standings and Upcoming Matches

The draw propels Hearts of Oak to 5th place on the GPL table with 29 points from 17 games. This result marks their first point in two away matches at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena and their second-ever point in all competitions against Samartex.

On the other hand, Samartex extends their unbeaten run against Hearts of Oak to four games across all competitions, including two wins and two draws.
